Way back in 2009 Horizon Hobby introduced their first electric powered glider, the ParkZone Radian which was a huge success by any measure. This simple 2 metre, 3 channel foam glider was quick to assemble, light and soared in the weakest of thermals. What more could a budding RC Glider pilot ask for?
Owing some of its design cues to the 1974 Hobie Hawk with an elliptical wing plan form and elliptical dihedral, the Radian has a distinctive look in the sky. Tens of thousands of RC pilots have enjoyed the easy flying characteristics and great soaring abilities of the Radian.
RC glider clubs all over the world hold one model competitions for the Radian including the Southern Soaring League in Adelaide. Up to 20 pilots launch their models on the sound of the hooter and climb under power to 100 metres where the motor is turned off. The task is to fly

As you are browsing through the Modelflight website you will notice that the newer releases from Horizon Hobby are equipped with a S.A.F.E receiver but what is it exactly? What is for and how do you use it?
1. Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope
S.A.F.E technology or (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) came about in 2013 developed by the good folks at Horizon Hobby who essentially wanted to help or assist inexperienced RC pilots gain confidence when flying. The first time we saw SAFE it was partnered with a re-release of arguably the most popular training plane ever sold – The E-Flite Apprentice. This was an absolute game-changer and revolutionized the way we look at the world of trainer aircrafts.

A gliding retrospective
Written by Mike O'Reilly
The Model
- Make every effort to have a ‘straight’ model
- This was important when you built your own model from balsa and foam, but modern moulded gliders rarely have warps or heavy panels
Trimming
The whole purpose of the trimming process is to make your glider easy to fly in a ‘hands-off’ situation. The easier it is to fly, the better it will fly. I like my gliders to be neutrally stable so they will fly hands off. This helps you to detect thermals in the first instance and to be comfortable flying your glider a long way downwind.
Tow Hook Position
With very few exceptions the tow hook should be placed in front of or on the CG. The ideal position also depends on flap and elevator presets so there is no definitive position. Moving the hook rearwards will increase the steepness of the climb, but

Singing Praises About the E-Flite Adagio
Spring has finally arrived and the time is ripe to get outdoors and enjoy the weather without fear of rain clouds! Fortunately we have a great glider from E-Flite that will be available soon for you to enjoy the new season. The Adagio is a 280-size electric glider constructed from Z-Foam. The beauty of this model is that is large enough to take advantage of in-air thermals, but also small enough to fly at your local park or a small field. The two-piece wing makes the glider easy to transport and its sleek, high aspect ratio airframe is perfect for soaring. With the functional flaps, you can also perform basic sport aerobatics - it's the best of both worlds!
This E-Flite Glider comes with a brushless 120Kv direct-drive outrunner motor pre-installed. If the wind conditions are not giving you enough lift, this motor will give you all the power you need. Simply increase the throttle and the propeller will unfold, allowing

An exciting RC glider to emerge from the 2014 Nuremberg Toy Fair was the E-Flite RC Allusive. Today we are pleased to announce that the arrival of this new model is imminent. This will be a great glider for fans of thermal soaring. With its streamline fibreglass fuselage, the Allusive is a well-constructed model. This glider offers four-channel control, covering V-tail, ailerons and throttle. You will notice that the canopy is quite large and will give you easy access to the plywood mounting plates; very useful as you put together the necessary components to complete this ARF glider.
The Allusive has a bold design, with bright orange tips on the ends of its two-piece wings. These wings

The original Radian from ParkZone was always a popular RC glider, proving to be easy-to-fly and offering great characteristics in the air. In this spirit of this tradition, E-Flite announced earlier this year the introduction of an Ultra Micro Radian and today we are pleased to annouce that this new model has arrived at Modelflight. The Ultra Micro Radian is going to be lots of fun. It comes equipped with AS3X Technology, so you know that your flights are going to be smooth and stable. With its 3-channel control, this minature Radian will offer easy flying and soaring characteristics. This ParkZone glider is constructed from light foam, giving you an easy to handle weight. The wing also comes with carbon fibre support.
