October 26, 2012 79It's been a big day for new releases at Modelflight, with Horizon Hobby releasing 3 great models from top brands ParkZone, E-Flite and Blade Heli. With a wingspan of only 8.7 inches and a flying weight of just under a third of an ounce, the ParkZone® Mini Vapor® slow flyer is the perfect size for navigating indoor spaces that might be a bit too tight for other ultra micros. Its compact presence and precise, 3-channel DSM2®/DSMX® control make it possible to deftly maneuver around furniture, light fixtures and other obstacles without bumping into a thing.

October 25, 2012 37What began as a somewhat mediocre evening at Indoor Flying, quickly blossomed into a NIGHT TO REMEMBER! As we have two Michaels who are prominent on the third Thursday of each month, I shall call them Junior Michael and Senior Michael with the Senior being the Managing Director of Model Flight and the Junior, one of our most avid fliers. On this occasion, Junior Michael became the star of the show on the night in question, when his Micro Mustang, of all the objects with which he COULD HAVE become entwined, he selected a long piece of wire (2mm) that was hanging from the rafters. The said aircraft dangled by its propeller, which was wrapped several times around the wire. (See my first picture of the hapless aircraft.) Lots of recovery means were discussed by the flying group put a table on top of another and stand on it. That suggestion, whilst offered and accepted in all sincerity, was cast aside because of the danger angle. Our intrepid Senior Staffer from Model Flight believes

3D Helicopter Flying Mode - How it Works
To fly aerobatic maneuvers, the helicopter must be in 3D Flight mode. The flight Mode toggle switch is located in the upper right of the transmitter switches between normal and 3D mode (Fig 9). In Normal Flight Mode, the first 50% of the throttle movement is for spooling up the rotor head. As throttle passes the 50% mark, the CCPM system gradually increases the the pitch of the blades to create lift and get the heli into the air. Note: All flying in normal mode will occur above 50% throttle. Landing will also occur in normal flight mode.In the 3D flight mode, the throttle stick functions switches from controlling the throttle to controlling the pitch angle of the rotor blades. The VNR 3D must be flying to switch into the 3D Flight Mode when the throttle input

September 27, 2012 25For all those who were able to attend Indoor Flying in September, you shared with all in attendance a most interesting and exciting evening, To really commence at the beginning, I must mention our latest import and his input, thanks to Model Flight. The name Chris Brislin would not mean a great deal to most people who reside over the border in S.A. but to American residents of Tucson, Arizona, a large number of them would realize that Chris flew himself, not only into American history, but into World history by gaining a podium finish in the Tucson Shootout competitions. Yes dear friends, if you look at my first picture of Chris, please realize that you are looking at, and those who fly at future Indoor Meets at ETSA Park are flying with, the aerobatic model flier who is in the top few

June 21, 2012 82No! I am not able to give a reason for so many mid-airs on this night. It was by no means our largest number of fliers and it would be impossible to pin-point whether it was more frequent among the Micro models or the larger Foamies for it was spread fairly evenly among all aircraft. They did happen and it was a shame for those involved and the ensuing work that would be necessary for their repair. A lot of interest was shown in Mike OReillys micro jet Mig. (Please see my first picture above.) It was an attractive little aircraft to say the least and with no external propeller, its lines were particularly clean. Some of our friends had seen this little whiz ship in action at Monartos Jet Day and they expected it to be a real racer. I doubt that anyone there was not looking on with, perhaps, mouth open when it literally screamed across the floor for take-off,

April 30, 2012 73Our April Indoor Meeting had a touch of Royalty to add a little richness to its flavor I speak of Speedway Royalty for those who can remember the days of Rowley Park which brought fame to many men and women over its 20-plus years of existence. One who will be remembered by his followers for many years to come is Bill Wigzell (Wigzell The Wizard) Bill was one of the leading competitors in not only South Australia, but in all speedway tracks throughout the nation. My opening shot this month is of Bill, who brought two of his grandies along to see just what we got up to each month. The Wigzells have recently discovered that the dam on Bills Cherry Gardens property is better suited to radio controlled boats than just feeding the sheep and cattle. The grandchildren the
