The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, November 2014
INDOOR AT ETSA IN NOVEMBER 2014 Although our numbers were down, yet again, those who came to fly were gifted with the entire Stadium space for at least the last hour of our allotted time. Whilst I am not telling you a lot about the fliers, I am concentrating this month, more on the boxes of models with which Mike O'Reilly armed himself this month. They made quite a picture when the boxes were opened to reveal such models as a B-17G Flying Fortress. To stir up your memory after such a long break, "Enola Gay" was the Fortress that dropped the first...

The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, October 2014
WE FLY THROUGH OCTOBER INDOOR Although we were down a little on numbers on October 16th, it was none-the-less an enjoyable evening for all who were able to attend, and by half way through our scheduled flying time, all the "leedies" had departed and left us with the entire stadium. We welcomed Michael O'Reilly home after he and Janine had spent a quite lengthy time in foreign countries. I shan’t repeat details as they appeared in my September episode and, apart from that, I am inclined to "go all funny" with envy. Let it suffice, or begin, by saying that my first picture is of a very small quad that he flew that night. Too small for me - I couldn't see it when it...

The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, September 2014
Our last Indoor night at the Netball Stadium had a couple of surprises. Firstly, we were missing a number of usual fliers and secondly, after just ten minutes we had the entire stadium at our disposal until Hugh, the Duty Manager decided that he should save some of the huge expense that is entailed through having the big lights on throughout the stadium. My first picture this month is of Anthony Steele who, each month, makes the utmost use of whatever flying time is available and you see him, setting up some of his models, prior to his night's flying. His models are always magnificently presented with multi coloured L.E.D.'s adorning them and making quite a spectacular use...

  • The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, August 2014

Well folks, as Mike is in USA until early October, I cannot see how anyone can get to Ben our Webmaster before that time so I shall just give you a somewhat stinted report on our August Indoor Meeting. As most of you would have gathered by now, we do have a special corner at the Netball Stadium that I prefer to call "The Fun Corner" named  in that manner because the usual quartet who fly there seem to enjoy themselves - well - perhaps a little more than others but usually at the expense of their models.  They have not filled their quota over the last two months and, in fact, John Oxby was the lone flier from that spot.  I am only including two pix with this month's story and they are both of  Fun Corner John. The first finds him looking somewhat forlorn  as he watches  the distant Entry door for the arrival of the rest of his troupe, all to no avail as they fail to appear. Beside J.O. are his 3 "Cracks." One is a super lightweight model beside his rather standard looking "Crack" and th...

  • RC Jet Meeting at Monarto - July 2014 Event Report

RC Jet Meeting at Monarto - July 2014 Event Report
This is a special guest post from Mike O'Reilly, who was invited to attend the July 2014 Jet Meeting. On Saturday 26th July Todd Morris on behalf of the JASA organised a local jet meeting at the AMA field at Monarto. Sunny skies and light winds blessed an enthusiastic group of pilots who attended. The field was in perfect condition for the testing of some new jets. Greg Leigh had his Ripmax Excalibur there and had dialled it in on his new Spektrum DX18 Gen 2 transmitter. He had also fitted the Spektrum telemetry system with the JetCat sensor, airspeed sensor and battery monitoring. It was fantastic to hear this data from the transmitter whilst flying. The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, July 2014
INDOOR AND AGAIN IN THE COLD Our July Indoor meeting, as one would expect, would turn out to be a freezer that is cold enough to freeze every little thing that one possesses so let me begin on a warm note. I  have made our good friend Richard Tapp the opening feature of my story. Richard has had a fairly torrid start to this year and it is most heartening to those of us who have known him for many years, to find him making his way back to the Indoor movement where he is most welcome. Even though he brought a model of his own, I handed him the transmitter for the tenth scale Griffon hovercraft. The Griffon Hovercraft works in the UK are the largest maker of these fascinating machines and they vary in size from the 30m (of which "our toy" is an exact scaled replica) to huge hovering barges...
