It was a huge weekend for Modelflight, making our first appearance at the V8 Supercars Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, South Australia. As a proud sponsor of the Brad Gallard #454 race team, we worked in conjunction with Toyo Tires to run a come and try race event at their R/C Arena. Clipsal 500 attendees (in addition to some special guests), were able to drive RC trucks from Traxxas across a custom-built clay track. The trucks featured at the event were the Traxxas Slash VXL and the Dakar Edition Slash.

This was a fantastic tie-in for the Clipsal 500. As some of you may be aware, this was the first time that the event featured the Stadium Super Trucks (SST). And what a debut it was! International guests from the U.S. series, including Robby Gordon, E.J. Viso, Sheldon Creed, Keegan Kincaid, Bill Hynes, and Charles Dorrance travelled all the way to Australia to race with some of our own home-grown talent. These representatives included Matt Mingay, Nathan Pretty, Brad Gallard, and Toby Price/Billy Geddes. We are happy to say that Brad Gallard finished in 5th place overall for the weekend!

It was a thrill to watch the SST races on the main track, and just as exciting to see thousands having the chance to drive smaller-scale RC versions of these amazing trucks! We were also fortunate enough to have several of the real racers drop in for a test drive. An impromptu race between Robby Gordon, Matt Mingay and Brad Gallard was certainly a crowd-puller, and Sheldon Creed made the most of the track during his breaks between races. We also had guest appearances from local footy players, including Port Adelaides Chad Wingard and Jarman Impey.

For everyone involved, it was a fantastic event and a fantastic weekend. Big thanks must go to Toyo Tires, Traxxas, and Robby Gordon/Speed Energy. Without their support, the Stadium Super Trucks appearance in Australia would not have been possible. We are glad to have been a part of this event and we trust all attendees had as much fun as we did! If you were unable to join us, rest assured, you can still have your own piece of SST action at home. The same Traxxas Slash VXL and Dakar Edition Slash RC trucks that were used at the event are both available at Modelflight, so be sure to check them out. Also, stay tuned to this blog post for further RC updates. You never know whats coming round the corner; we even hear the SSTs could be back Down Under later this year!
