  • RC Jet Meeting at Monarto - July 2014 Event Report

RC Jet Meeting at Monarto - July 2014 Event Report
This is a special guest post from Mike O'Reilly, who was invited to attend the July 2014 Jet Meeting. On Saturday 26th July Todd Morris on behalf of the JASA organised a local jet meeting at the AMA field at Monarto. Sunny skies and light winds blessed an enthusiastic group of pilots who attended. The field was in perfect condition for the testing of some new jets. Greg Leigh had his Ripmax Excalibur there and had dialled it in on his new Spektrum DX18 Gen 2 transmitter. He had also fitted the Spektrum telemetry system with the JetCat sensor, airspeed sensor and battery monitoring. It was fantastic to hear this data from the transmitter whilst flying. The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, July 2014
INDOOR AND AGAIN IN THE COLD Our July Indoor meeting, as one would expect, would turn out to be a freezer that is cold enough to freeze every little thing that one possesses so let me begin on a warm note. I  have made our good friend Richard Tapp the opening feature of my story. Richard has had a fairly torrid start to this year and it is most heartening to those of us who have known him for many years, to find him making his way back to the Indoor movement where he is most welcome. Even though he brought a model of his own, I handed him the transmitter for the tenth scale Griffon hovercraft. The Griffon Hovercraft works in the UK are the largest maker of these fascinating machines and they vary in size from the 30m (of which "our toy" is an exact scaled replica) to huge hovering barges...

  • The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, June 2014

The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, June 2014
June Indoor Still Improves with  New Times After discussions with several of our Indoor Fliers, it seems that they all credit the increase in flying numbers to the earlier flying times of 7.30p.m. to 9.30p.m. A heartening release from our worries as to why they seemed to be dropping off. I begin this "Phoenix" article with some intimate details on Mr. Robert McEwin.  No! Please don't send the children outside - they are not THAT intimate.  Pictured here as my opening shot, Bob is the Editor of the Masa-mag and he speaks with a lot of authority gleaned from his years of model making as well  as one of this State's premier fliers. He is a dedicated member of the Holdfast Club  where he flies frequently and also one of the leading local fliers at the Sensational Model  Aero Events at "Conny." • RC Jet Action 2014 - Event Report

RC Jet Action 2014 - Event Report
The sky above Monarto played host to an extraordinary RC jet display last weekend. The annual RC Jet Action was hosted by the Adelaide Model Aerosport Club and what a show it was! Modelflight was fortunate enough to attend the spectacle and we have put together the below video which highlights all the action: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zenQ8EK6wFQ&w=713&h=401&showinfo=0&iv_load_policy=3&modestbranding=1&controls=0] RC Jet Action Images As you can see, there was a wide range of RC jets on show. • Modelflight Off to Finke Desert Race with Brad Gallard Team #454

Modelflight Off to Finke Desert Race with Brad Gallard Team #454
So this time next week we will have completed our 1500km trip north from Adelaide to Alice Springs for the 38th Finke Desert Race. The Modelflight team are looking forward to getting involved in the sights and sounds of this historic race. For those of you that may not be aware we thought it important to give you a little background to the history of the race. The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off-road, multi terrain two-day sprint/race through the Simpson desert from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) Community on the first day, and, back to Alice on the second day. The race crosses the Finke River, believed to be one of the oldest in the world and this year will be held from the 7th to 9th June. “Finke” as it i...

The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, May 2014
INDOOR IN THE MERRY MONTH OF MAY Well dear readers, life for we mere mortals has had its share of "ups" and "downs" over the last few months. The weather, always a common topic has, fortunately been mainly on the "up"  with we here in Adelaide notching up some sort of a record for the number of consecutive days over 22 degrees. Scott the golfer has had several "downs" among his many "ups" but still manages to be popular. Rolf Harris could well have done with a few more "downs" but dont let us mosey along that path and probably one of the most important "ups" to us is that our flying numbers were up to such a height that for the first time this year, we managed to pay the rent to the Netball Stadium. My first picture features a group of fine looking gentlemen, mainly making their first visit to our Indoor Flying and what a welcome they were. I can only hope that they return. • Phoenix Flight Simulator V5 Software Arrives at Modelflight

Phoenix Flight Simulator V5 Software Arrives at Modelflight
Version 5 of the Phoenix Flight Simulator was one of the most anticipated releases from the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2014. Today, we are pleased to announce that this new RC software has arrived at Modelflight. This simulator comes with many exciting new features, which we wanted to discuss in more detail here. The key drawcard of this new flight sim is that it comes with the Phoenix Builder companion software. Phoenix Builder allows you to import your own RC plane and helicopter designs from almost any 3D CAD program. After loading this source geometry, you can then use Phoenix to customise...

The Phoenix Event Report: Indoor Flying in Adelaide, April 2014
On the surface, the situation looked a little brighter than it has been at ETSA Park over the past two months and I am opening my story this month with a picky of a trio who are usually the life of the party. They are from left to right: Matthew Chapple, Mike Holmes and J.J. Their antics are usually well worth taking the time out from flying to see them in action. They are all brilliant fliers and no doubt most of you have witnessed their flying at fields throughout the State.  It is not surprising to see David getting all "up close and personal" with the tenth scale Griffon hovercraft for a little later in the evening he took the controls and had no problems with hovering or flying the interesting machine...
