If you’re looking to upgrade your RC charger but aren’t sure where to start, this blog post is for you. We’re going to take you through some of our popular chargers available at Modelflight and how they apply to some of the products that we sell.
First, we are going to talk about our very affordable Ultra Power 4AC-PLUS charger that is a great upgrade for products such as the ECX AMP. The ECX AMP is a Ready-To-Run (RTR) RC car that comes with a charger that takes up to 9 hours to charge. The UP4AC-PLUS is capable of cutting down your charge time to 1 hour and can charge up to 4S LiPos if you wish to get another RC vehicle in the future or start running different types of batteries. This is a great upgrade and a popular pairing with that particular vehicle, and vehicles from brands like ECX. Another popular charger upgrade for the ECX AMP is the Ultra Power 100AC Duo. Upgrading to this charger gives you the possibility of charging two of your batteries simultaneously and will cut down your charge time significantly.
The E-Flite Apprentice STS RC plane is a popular RC trainer plane among beginner pilots and comes with a USB charger. Although this charger is convenient, it takes 2-4 hours to charge the battery. A suitable charger upgrade for this aircraft is the Ultra Power 100AC Plus charger that can take your charge time down to just half an hour, so it is a great way to get up and flying a bit quicker. It also has the ability to perform a storage charge and discharge your batteries. Another great feature on this charger, that is also featured on the Ultra Power 100AC Duo, is they have a DC input, so if you’re out in the field/near your vehicle, you can get an optional charge cable (DYNC1109) that hooks onto your battery and allows you to power your charger.
All three of the chargers that we have mentioned come with the appropriate charge lead and balance boards for the vehicle and aircraft we’ve spoken about. However, a great option to make these chargers more flexible with a variety of different batteries that you may have is the Dualsky Multi-Charge Lead. This lead has a number of different battery connectors that can be useful for almost any battery type out there including:
-
XT60
-
EC3/DC3
-
Traxxas
-
Deans T style
-
Deans micro 2 pin
-
Tamiya
-
JST
-
JR/Futaba Rx
-
JR & Futaba old-style Tx
-
And more!
This charge lead is definitely a great option and one that every RC enthusiast should have.
The next charger we are going to talk about is the Ultra Power UP6+ charger, which is a very popular choice for some of our more high-performance vehicles like the ARRMA 6S and 8S range. Most of these vehicles will be running on two batteries, so you’ll definitely want a charger that can charge two simultaneously. This will help you get back up and running in a reasonable amount of time. This UP6+ charger is quite powerful, and for example, will be able to charge two 4S 7600mAH LiPo batteries in one hour. The charger is compatible with XT60 connectors; however, we have adapters available that make it possible to charge batteries with an EC3 (DSBOD8306) or EC5 (UPXT6EC5) connectors. This high-performance charger also features a wireless charger for mobile phones as well as motor and servo testing.
We hope this blog post has given you the information you require to upgrade your charger that will best suit you and your RC model. Chargers and Battery management can be a little confusing at times.
