So, you’ve just bought your first RC plane and are eager to get it in the air. The world of RC planes provides a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting challenge for people of all ages and skill levels; however, there are a few things you should know, prior to hitting the open skies for the first time.

1. Read the instruction manual

The first thing you’ll need to do is read the instruction manual cover to cover - we know what you’re thinking - you don’t need an instruction manual, but trust us on this one. Not only does it assist in the correct operation of the product, but it also informs of safety precautions, warnings, troubleshooting and maintenance to prolong the life of your RC plane – and prevent the possibility of a hefty repair bill should you find yourself in hot water. If you come across anything in the manual you don’t completely understand, jump online; there are so many great blogs, tutorial videos, forums you can join and other resources that will help immensely. Of course, you can always contact us with any questions you may have too.

2. Learn before flying

Once an aircraft takes off there are only 2 ways it is coming back down; as it took off, or broken. Of course it is possible to learn to fly with the right airplane all by yourself, however you are going to have a much better chance with the help of an experienced pilot. Not only will it make flying a more enjoyable experience, but you can learn from their mistakes, tips and tricks too. If no one is available to assist you, we highly recommend looking into buying a flight simulator. Flight simulators are a great tool to help beginners learn the basics, so when you hit the flying field you’ll have more confidence and a better chance at a successful flight.

3. Battery maintenance

It is vital to unplug the LiPo battery from the aircraft at the end of every flight, as leaving the battery plugged in can run it flat and ruin it. When recharging batteries, ensure it is on a non-flammable surface and the battery has cooled down entirely before recharging - and never leave charging batteries unattended. We highly suggest purchasing a LiPo charging bag to help protect you, your equipment and batteries in case of an accidental explosion or fire.
