Bordertown 2023 Scale Glider Event

After COVID border restrictions and poor weather had impacted the last two years, we made up for it this year with three fabulous days of sunshine and light winds. 33 pilots from WA, Victoria and South Australia enjoyed the open space and great thermal conditions at the Bordertown Aerodrome. Hundreds of flights took place with many of them over 30 minutes.

Hangar 9 Pawnee Brave

Seagull Super Decathlon RC Plane

Towing duties were very capably handled by Greg Leigh with his trusty Hangar 9 DA120-powered Piper Pawnee and Trevor Pearce with an electric-powered Seagull Super Decathlon. On Saturday evening, we enjoyed a BBQ at the rear of the Bordertown & Keith Glider Clubrooms courtesy of funding from the MAAA Club Activity Program and Model Flight, with the culinary skills of Peter Melders, Alexis Scott and Daryl Doyle on show. Flying on Sunday wrapped up with the presentation of the Pilot Choice awards for Best Modern Glider – Rod Watkins ASW15 and Best Vintage Glider – Mike O’Reilly Orlik II.
