In the realm of iconic warbird fighter aircraft, the P-51D Mustang is right up there with the best of them. From its first flight in October 1940, the unique design of the P-51 set it apart from most other fighters. The skies of WW2 are where the Mustang first forged its reputation and on October 7, 1944, Urban 'Ben’ Drew came up against the brand new Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter over enemy territory. Ben became the first and only Allied pilot to shoot down two of these Me 262 jets in his now celebrated P-51D Mustang with his own personalised 'Detroit Miss’ fighter plane. If you aren't confident enough yet in your transmitter-controlling game you can turn on the optional use of SAFE Select technology which will activate automatic self-levelling for those times when you push the stick the wrong way... You can also set pitch and bank angle limits so your flying stays within a manageable flight envelope.

The brushless power system on the E-flite® UMX™ P-51D Mustang has been factory-installed and features an outrunner motor compatible with both 2S and 3S LiPo batteries. When flown with 2S 280-300mAh LiPos this power system delivers similar performance to the original UMX P-51 but you may need a suitable JST-RCY to JST-PH adapter (SPMXCA327). Plug in a 3S 300mAh LiPo and you now have unlimited vertical performance and one of the fastest UMX models ever on your hands. The flight controller unit features a Spektrum receiver and ESC that will provide real-time voltage telemetry data from your flight battery as you fly when paired to a compatible Spektrum AirWare equipped transmitter (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/G3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6 to 20, the iX12 to 20, and others). 

The durable and lightweight airframe on the E-flite® UMX™ P-51D Mustang is constructed using advanced EPS material which means it can handle the odd rough landing. Because of its ultra-micro size, your Mustang can be flown in a lot more places and spaces including yards, some indoor arenas and your local oval. If you choose to install the optional steerable tailwheel and fixed landing gear you can enjoy easy take-offs and landings on smooth surfaces. Without these, your E-flite® UMX™ P-51D Mustang will achieve higher speeds and vertical performance due to less wind drag. It can be easily hand-launched and then landed on grass. Overall this is one of the easiest to fly, convenient and affordable replicas of the P-51D Mustang yet! 

To get your E-flite® UMX™ P-51D Mustang into the air you just need to bind it to your 5+ channel DSMX/DSM2 transmitter and because it comes 100% factory assembled, the only thing left to do is to connect the battery and then get this RC warbird airborne. 

Skill Level 2 – Some Experience Required 

Skill Level 2 aircraft, like this one, are suitable for RC pilots who already have some experience and the skills to assemble and/or set up and fly similar class models. Although this is one of the easiest-to-fly P-51 models yet, it’s not a suitable first-ever RC aircraft for new pilots or the “next step after a trainer” model for low-time RC pilots. You should have the experience and skills necessary to successfully fly higher performance ultra-micro models like the various UMX Timber models, or larger models like the E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.1m, the Commander mPd 1.4m, Timber 1.5m models, or other similar class models before attempting to fly the UMX P-51D Mustang.
