Product Information

Straight-line speed off the line, cornering with a lean and superb power-to-weight ratio are all hallmarks of the Losi Promoto RC bikes. The Promoto-MX was superb in replicating the experience of driving full-scale dirt bikes. The Losi Promoto-SM 1/4 Supermoto Motorcycle now brings you the same high level of driving experience in a road bike format.

Key Differences Between the Promoto-SM and Promoto-MX

Very well suited to asphalt, concrete and other hard surfaces the Promoto-SM is great for your local street or car parks. Some key differences between the Promoto-SM and its MX counterpart include a more powerful front brake calliper, revised lean bar wheels and new Pro-line Racing OE (Original Equipment) SM street tyres on smaller wheels. This means when you are travelling at 64+ km/h, your Promoto-SM can lean further than its dirt bike mate, and, the street tyres offer better traction on hard surfaces as well as decrease noise. The smaller true-spoke wheels that these tyres are mounted on are designed to replicate real on-road motorcycles, and, provide the durability that RC motorbike driving requires.

Fantastic Scale Realism in the Losi Promoto-SM Design

The scale realism on the Losi Promoto-SM is exceptional with distinctive details including a shortened front fender, hand guards, officially licensed FXR rider gear and graphics, plus more. To maintain this scale look across all areas of the bike the electronics and battery all had to fit nicely in the narrow, compact chassis. The battery size was a little problematic, but the Losi product development team found a solution that fits a full-size 2S hardcase LiPo in the rider's seat. This positioning makes for quick and easy battery changes.

Realistic Rider Figure and FXR Licensed Gear

The realistic rider figure on the Promoto-SM has a rubberised plastic exterior with a bit of give in order to cope with impacts, unlike the foam that riders on other bikes are made of. The rider is also kitted out with officially licensed FXR gear, so it looks ready to take on any on-road racing that you may be planning. Adding to the look of your Promoto-SM is a full-body panel kit wrapped in vinyl graphics.

Maintenance Made Easy with Realistic Bike Stands

Performing maintenance on the Promoto-SM has been made easier with the stand included in the kit. It's modelled after a real bike stand, even down to the graphics! To ensure the Promoto-SM remains balanced, it keys into the stand to keep everything still. Also included is a hands-free starting stand that cradles the rear tyre while holding the bike upright so you can pin it when the gates drop. You name it and the Promoto-SM has it covered – number plate, front and rear side panels, fenders, fork guards – with highly durable, updated vinyl graphics.

Enhanced Durability

To increase durability on the Promoto-SM several great features assist you if you run into any trouble. The rigid front crash structure will compress upon impact until the front tyre bottoms into the chassis frame, to absorb the lion's share of any collision. This will also protect the front fork tubes from bending. If you purchase a Promoto-SM you should almost certainly be expecting to pull a wheelie. They're just part of the fun! Ordinarily, you would have a rigid mounted rear fender to keep you from flipping over and they certainly take a beating. The solution Losi came up with for the Promoto-SM is a hinged elastomer sprung rear fender that will shift out of the way during wheelies and uncovers a durable nylon rear bumper. This ensures your rear fender is not taking excessive impact.

Protective Features for the Promoto-SM Chassis and Electronics

To protect the bottom of the Promoto-SM chassis, moulded composite skid plates line the front and bottom. These keep debris out of the chassis and offer protection during crashes, whilst also protecting the mounted electronics inside. There are air vents on each side of the bike that can be opened to increase airflow inside the chassis when ambient temperatures get high enough to warrant cooling off. To add to the realistic narrow appearance of the Promoto-SM, twin aluminium chassis plates protect and house all the electronics. They also provide added durability and stiffness that help in the event of a big stack.

Electronic and Mechanical Technologies for an Authentic Experience

Both the Promoto-MX and Promoto-SM share innovative electronic and mechanical technology that blend perfectly to give RC users an experience that other RC bikes just can't get near. To replicate the terrain handling characteristics of full-size motorcycles, Losi's product development team studied their suspension geometry to give both Promoto's as much ride authenticity as possible. Spinning at over 22,000 rpm the heavy steel flywheel, powered by the 2700Kv motor, generates a lot of gyroscopic stabilisation force that keeps the Promoto upright. Mounted as far forward and low as possible in the frame, the Promoto-SM utilises the flywheel unit to pivot around its centre point to improve changes of direction, jumping and the bike's performance accuracy.

Patent-Pending Spektrum MS6X Technology

The Promoto-SM is fitted with exciting patent pending MS6X technology from Spektrum. Included with your bike is a Spektrum SR6300PM receiver and a DX3PM transmitter through which you will enjoy the unprecedented control that MS6X technology will give you. MS6X allows your Promoto-SM to maintain perfect balance over hard surfaces while travelling at low or high speeds. If you want to get more aggressive with your driving you can use the MS6X knob on your transmitter to increase the lean angle for even more extreme cornering.

The rising rate rear suspension on your Promoto-SM prevents bottoming out in landings and produces superior grip. The suspension starts soft around the ride height, enhancing your superior grip and smooth handling. As your suspension gets deeper into up travel, it becomes firmer, providing proper preload on jumps and preventing you from bottoming out when you land. The suspension also has coil-over oil-filled shock absorbers so you are ready to tackle on-road surfaces at will.

Front Fork

Another innovation from Losi on the Promoto-SM is an internal spring and dampener on the front fork. This mechanism works in a similar fashion to normal RC shocks. By changing the silicone dampening fluid, you can tune and rebuild the front fork tubes. You can also adjust the ride height using counter-wound lower and upper springs and spacers. To top it all off they look fantastic as well!

Updated Brake Calipers & Piston

Not content with the perfectly good front brake system on the Promoto-MX, the Losi design team went all out to make improvements to the SM. An all-new calliper and floating piston were installed to apply a larger pressure area to the brake pad. To improve the seal against dust and debris and make the operation smoother, a new metal injection moulded piston shaft has been installed on the bearings. This means when you need to stop or brake hard, you'll have a shorter stopping distance and your braking operation will always operate with consistency.

"On the Fly" Drive Modes

There are three pre-programmed drive modes on your DX3PM transmitter that you can alternate between by simply using your thumb on the A/B rocker switch enabling you to change ‘on the fly’.

  • Dirt Mode — Lets the Promoto-SM pitch up enough without cutting the throttle prior to going up jump faces and obstacles, but will kick in and cut the throttle output if the bike begins to pitch up far into “wheelie-overs” territory

  • Street Mode — detects when the Promoto-SM starts to pitch up and cuts the throttle quickly, putting the front tyre back on the ground so you can continue to accelerate as much as you like.

  • Wheelie Control — this mode lets you hold wheelies on smooth surfaces from low speeds all the way to top speed.

Spektrum SMART Technology

Before Smart technology, knowing how much battery life you have left has always been a bit hit-and-miss. Now you can 'hit’ every time with LED indicators on your DX3PM transmitter that display the remaining capacity of your SMART Spektrum battery. The Promoto-SM will also store and relay other telemetry data as you require. Recharging your LiPo has also been made easier through SMART technology. When you hook up your Smart battery to a Spektrum Smart charger the unique charging requirements of the battery will automatically upload from its memory microchip through the IC connector's data wire and safe charging will start automatically.

Servo Saver

The servo saver on the Promoto-SM has stiff circular springs held by bearing-mounted composite plates, providing steering consistency and enough give to ensure the servo remains protected. It also gives you vastly improved landings from jumps, pushing the front tyre over curbs, setting down from wheelies, and, power sliding through turns. The bike will stay up because of the give.

Head Damping

To properly guide the Promoto-SM into turns, it takes a very stiff servo-saver spring setup to handle the eight pounds of power propelling your supermoto bike down the track. The best way to control the strong springs is to ensure the movement can be dampened effectively. A fluid-filled friction chamber between the lower and upper head tube bearings is one of the key developments that Losi has made in this area of the Promoto platform. Filled with heavy 500,000cSt this chamber dampens the servo saver and enables you to control any possible head shakes that may have developed otherwise.

Brushless Power System for 64+ km/h Speeds

The Spektrum Smart brushless power system that propels your Promoto-SM ensures you get out of the gates very quickly. The 85A brushless ESC controls the power from the 4-pole 3652 3800Kv motor which will propel you along at 64+ km/h with a 2S LiPo installed.

Front Cable-Driven Disc Brake

When you have an enormous power-to-weight ratio like the Promoto-SM, you are going to need very good brakes. Like its full-scale counterpart, most braking happens with the front tyre. To slow you down quickly, the front brake uses calliper-actuated brake pads, a steel rotor and servo drive cable cutting your stopping rate down to half the distance.

Race-Inspired Slipper Clutch

Helping the Promoto-SM's rear tyre maintain traction on a variety of surfaces is the race-inspired dual disc slipper clutch. The spring pressurised, dual pad slipper clutch draws its inspiration from the TLR racers that win comps across the globe with the same clutch set-up. You'll also get the same explosive drive and increased traction while protecting the drivetrain.

Realistic Chain Drive

Much like its full-scale brethren, the Promoto-SM can claim to be a true street racing bike because of its chain-driven status. A 36-tooth aluminium hub sprocket and a 10-tooth steel drive sprocket are wrapped around by steel links and 70 roller pins. This chain drive will function to drive the rear tyre reliably and efficiently.

Ready-To-Run

The Losi Promoto-SM comes fully assembled, with a high-quality Spektrum Smart radio system included and onboard electronics already installed. A powerful Spektrum 2S LiPo battery, convenient Smart USB charger, and AA transmitter batteries are also supplied.
