E-Flite SE5a 900mm RC Plane, BNF Basic, EFL10950

Considered by many pilots to be the best single-seat British fighter of the time and referred to by many pilots as the ‘Spitfire of World War One’, the Royal Aircraft Factory (RAF) SE5 was the main reason the Allied forces eventually regained and maintained air superiority in mid-1917. At the time, six manufacturers constructed more than 5,000 of these highly recognisable aircraft.

As one of the most iconic fighters of WW1, it is surprising that the SE5 has been rarely reproduced in model form on any scale for RC purposes. The E-flite SE5a 900mm was inspired by the original ParkZone model but this iteration features an all-new design with modern-day technologies and features and a lot more scale detail. The end result is an iconic WW1 RC warbird that will surprise pilots with its unmatched performance and capabilities. 

Constructed from durable yet lightweight EPO foam and at a convenient 900mm size, this RC warbird is capable of smooth and slow-scale flying plus a few basic aerobatics in its stride. If it's aggressive aerobatics that you're after then try cranking up the throws on this SE5a for a very pleasantly surprising response with pop tops, snaps and more, all available to the intermediate and advanced pilot. 

Scale Details  

The level of scale detail built into the E-flite SE5a 900mm is impressive and includes, radiator and exhaust details, a pilot figure with scarf, moulded-in ribs, machine guns, plus elastic flying wires which are an optional use item. Headlining the functional features are the large-scale main wheels along with a hidden steerable tailwheel. Although this remote control plane can be transported fully assembled due to its convenient size, E-flite have made storage and assembly easier with wings and struts that bolt and snap into place.  

Spektrum Electronics with Exclusive Technologies 

Providing reliable and precise control at every speed are four factory-installed digital and metal-geared servos. The specially tuned Spektrum brushless outrunner motor is built to accommodate either 3S or 4S LiPo batteries. If you want basic aerobatics and smooth-scale flying then a 3S LiPo will do the job easily. If you want to ramp up your E-flite SE5a 900mm, slot in a 4S LiPo you will be surprised by the aggressive aerobatic performance and unlimited vertical that this RC warbird can produce. When it comes to swapping out or over your LiPo's the top-mounted magnetically secured hatch is super convenient for removing and installing popular 2200-3200mAh LiPo's quite easily.   

Providing a range of real-time telemetry data relating to the SE5a's power system is the 45-amp Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC including current, battery voltage, motor RPM and more with either Smart or non-Smart batteries. You will need compatible receivers that include the AR631+ which comes with the E-flite SE5a 900mm. You will also need a compatible transmitter with Spektrum AirWare installed. These include the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6 to 20, iX12 to 20 and others. The Spektrum AR631+ receiver is also loaded with a Smart Transmitter Model File which means you can import all settings for iX and NX radios during the binding process. 

That is not the only function that your Spektrum AR631+ receiver comes programmed with. Your E-flite® SE5a 900mm also has AS3X+ technology installed which provides additional corrective stability as you fly. You also have the option of using SAFE Select technology which will give you flight envelope protection within set parameters.   

To complete the scale look of this iconic WW1 RC warbird it has a factory finished Royal Flying Corps two-tone with a roundel trim scheme.

Skill Level 2 aircraft, like this one, are suitable for RC pilots who already have some experience and the skills to assemble, set up, and fly similar class models. You should have the experience and skills necessary to successfully fly models like the E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.1m, Valiant 1.2m, Commander mPd 1.4m, Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5m, or other similar class models before attempting to fly the SE5a 900mm BNF Basic version.
