Hobbyzone Apprentice S 2 1.2m RC Plane, RTF Basic, Mode 2

The HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m is designed for those who have never flown an RC plane before. Designed to make learning to fly fun and easy this ‘traditional’ trainer is an updated version of the best-selling trainer aircraft, the Mini Apprentice S 1.2m, and, a scaled-down version of E-flite's Apprentice STS 1.5m design making it not only more affordable but more convenient to fly in smaller places like parks and ovals as well as typical flying fields. To assist new pilots with their learning experience the HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m is fitted with Horizon Hobby’s innovative and exclusive SAFE Select technology. Powering you through the skies is a brushless and efficient motor with a telemetry-capable ESC along with factory-installed servos and a receiver. The steerable nose wheel and oversized tyres on the wide-stance tricycle landing gear allow the HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m to be operated from a number of surfaces and offer improved ground handling. Purchase optional floats (HBZ7390) and you can take off and land on water.

SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) Select technology helps flyers avoid loss of orientation, overcontrol and crashes to increase your ability to learn RC flying successfully. Choose from Beginner, Intermediate and Experienced modes and the level of control and stability changes with the flick of a switch. If you still manage to get into trouble then you can hit the Panic Recovery mode button and your HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m will return to steady and level flight allowing you time to gather yourself before taking back control.

When you purchase the Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version of the HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m you get everything you need to get airborne except for your choice of battery and charger. If you’re an experienced pilot you can also purchase a BNF Basic version to match up with your choice of a transmitter, battery and charger. On both versions of the Apprentice S 2 1.2m the receiver, telemetry capable ESC and brushless power system are all factory installed in the durable lightweight EPO airframe that is easy and quick to assemble without the need for special tools or glue.

The telemetry-capable ESC in the HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m can keep the pilot updated on a variety of real-time power system-related telemetry data to compatible transmitters like the one included. Remaining battery power is one such example which is displayed using multiple LEDs and also audible alerts from your DXS transmitter. If you have a Spektrum AirWare equipped transmitter (DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/G3 and 8 G2, the DX9, the NX6, 8 and 10, the iX12, iX20 and others) you can also get updated with current, motor RPM and more telemetry data while you are airborne.

Once you get up some confidence in the HobbyZone Apprentice S 2 1.2m you can practice some more advanced aerobatic manoeuvres including rolls, loops and inverted flight. With the same DXS transmitter included with the RTF Basic version, you can also fly a variety of ‘next step’ aircraft as your flying skills evolve including the E-flite Valiant 1.3m or T-28 Trojan 1.1m. Also using the same DXS transmitter you can practice on the RealFlight Trainer Edition RC Flight simulator by purchasing a Spektrum WS2000 Wireless simulator dongle before even hitting the skies. There are a number of other Horizon Hobby trainer aircraft available to practice on as well as Virtual Flight Instructor lessons. Whether you’re on your PC or your laptop you can prepare for a real flight without leaving your lounge room.

Ready-to-Fly Basic Completion Level

This Ready-To-Fly (RTF) Basic version includes a Spektrum™ DXS controller/transmitter equipped with industry-leading DSMX® 2.4GHz technology and everything else you need to fly except for a rechargeable lithium polymer (LiPo) battery and charger for the airplane. The convenient and money-saving Spektrum™ Powerstage 2 bundle (SPMXPSA200) includes a compatible 3S 2200mAh Smart G2 LiPo battery and an S120 USB-C Smart charger that can be used with a variety of USB power sources. Or you can choose the separate 3S 1300–2200mAh battery and compatible charger you prefer!
