RC Boats offer a fun experience for people of all ages - but before you head out onto your pool, local pond or lake, be sure to follow these tips to ensure optimum performance and prolong the life of your boat.

1. Read the instruction manual

Many people make the mistake of not reading the manual before use and end up damaging their remote control boat within the first few runs. It is important to read the instruction manual from cover to cover and ensure you fully understand how to operate the product. If you are unsure or do not understand something, do some research before using the product. There is plenty of information online including videos, tutorials and forums that you can join. Our staff are also more than happy to help, so don’t be afraid to contact us with any questions.

2. Lubricate the flex drive

If your boat is fitted with a flex drive, ensure it is greased with a marine or thick automotive grease prior to use and re-greased at each battery change for best results and longevity. Lubricating the flex drive will reduce friction, wear and tear and will prolong the life of your boat. It is also a good idea to lube your flex shaft and other moving parts, if you are going to be storing the boat for an extended period of time.

3. Avoid excessive use of reverse

It is best to only use reverse when you need to get out of a crash or sticky situation, as using reverse draws water into the hull. It will also flush the grease from the stuffing tube and leave the flex drive unlubricated, so it is important to be mindful of the fact that the flex drive might now be dry.

4.  Steer clear of salt water

Operation in salt water is at the user's discretion, as salt water is highly corrosive and conductive. Electronic components can fail in a matter of minutes if they come in to contact with salt water, so avoid salt water entirely unless you are prepared to thoroughly clean and maintain the boat. If you do run the boat in salt water, flush the hull and cooling system with fresh water - compressed air and WD40 will also come in handy to help clean your RC boat and lubricate the drive system.
