Ultrafly PC9 - A Closer look
Ultrafly Models if you believe the company's
website promote their model to be the best foamies on the market but
then most manufacturers will say the same about any of their
products. So are Ultrafly models as good as they say? The guys at
ModelFlight had to find out:
Ultrafly brushless motor options are available
for their entire range and do offer one of the best value speed 400 size
brushless motor and controllers options on the market. The motors
are especially powerful and thankfully, Ultrafly has used the GWS
mounting system so you get the best of both worlds. You can mount
them as a speed 400 type mount or if you want to supercharge your
GWS foamies, the mounts and even two sets of gear ratios comes
standard with the motor.
These motors work well with the F-27 Stryker
blanks and are used on
ModeFlight's own
F-27 squadron as seen on the video.
The accessory packs come complete with motor,
propeller, mounts, wheels, horns, spinners, canopy and even a tube of
the Ultrafly foam glue. All you need to supply are radio gear and
a matching electronic speed controller for the motor you selected.
The foam and vacuum formed parts are without
doubt, the best quality we have seen.
All panels match exactly and the surfaces are
finished to a high standard.
You can see that when the two half of the body
are taped, there is no gap in it at all. Its amazing that they can
mould foam to tolerances of less than 1mm.
Her is a picture of the rudder just sitting on
top of the tail surface. The fit is perfect, so much so that the
rudder will stand held in place by friction between the two foam
sides.
As you can see form the picture above, the fit
between the wings and the body are also as precise.
Summary:
Ultrafly models are an impressive piece of foam
moulding. The entire kit oozes pure quality and precision. This care
taken in manufacturing certainly shows when you open the box. More
accurate construction also leads to a stronger model that flies even
better.
All in all you won't be disappointed with the
experience of building and flying an Ultrafly Model which is why we
give it our very high recommendation!

Ultrafly
ARFs include a Falcon 400 motor and gearbox
for matched-component performance and buying
convenience. Gearboxes include a pinion and
spur gear selected to provide strong climbs
and longer flights. Smaller-gauge windings
on the motor enable it to handle higher
voltages and more amps, which translates to
more power for stunts and more flying time
to enjoy it. Prop hub and adapter included.
