The Phoenix Spends Easter At ETSA

People are very unpredictable. Speaking with Mike the boss earlier in the day, we discussed the possibility of scratching to "pay the rent" at indoor, it being so close to the Easter long weekend. Well dear readers, we didn't get it quite right because, as usual, Kirk led the procession, of a good number of pilots, into the seats to witness the final training period of the net ball "leedies" as they trained under the watchful, and I might add, lovely eyes of Michelle Den Dekker. She, it pleases me to add, is the first of the "leedies" to ask if their time is up, even though she and her team still had 15 minutes to go. What a likeable soul, who will remain one of our favourites among those very fit sports ladies.

When Michelle called to us, "Its all yours!" there was a polite and well organised scramble to grab our possies near a chair and get our planes and helis ready to fly.

Jurgen Schneider's Easter heli.

As it was the day prior to Easter, my first picky shows the ever tactfully organised flier front up with his flying Easter egg. You may recall, friends that, at Christmas time, Jurgen Schneider was to be seen at both The Hub at Aberfoyle Park and at ETSA Park, flying his Santa Sleigh Heli. I'm sure that my regular readers of The Phoenix columns will not be surprised when I tell you that Jurgen had changed the sleigh body for an Easter egg and it really looked the part as its contra-rotating blades allowed it to smoothly float around the area.

The Pot-pourri of models

Well done Jurgen. I feel it is fortunate that we do not celebrate Bastille Day for I dread to think of his transformed heli on that occasion. It was a bit of a mixed night with one gentleman, who was sharing a "come-and-try" evening, at our invitation, arrived with a varied collection of aircraft and my second pix highlights his pot-pourri of craft, with which he gave an impressive demonstration throughout the evening. We steered him in the right direction for his indoctrination into a flying club and, following the confirmation of his membership, we look forward to his return to ETSA Park. You see, patient readers, we do have a wee problem with uninsured fliers trying to join our organisation, and may I hi-light the fact that they require insurance coverage, through their membership of a MASA affiliated club, to make them legally safe within our organisation. (Visitors are always welcome though, under the MAAA Come n Try policy)

Smiling Jurgen and Andy Hollitt

I do not know what they found so fascinatingly humourous, but the afore-mentioned Jurgen Schneider and Andy Hollitt were found exercising their tonsils in a funny way which seemed to amuse them both. I love a happy photo and, yes, that is a happy snappy.

Matty (standing) Mike (sitting)

There was not a lot of humour in my final pix which accompanies this story, for it is of Matthew Waye and Michael O'Reilly. It looks quite innocent as Mike alters some adjustment on his flying saucer, BUT it would not surprise me if Michael was saying, "Matty, it seems, with you arriving at Model Flight (soon to move from Maple Avenue Keswick to 130 Goodwood Road – just around the corner – watch this space) in your magnificent Mercedes Cabriolet, that I am paying you far too much so, open your next pay envelope with the utmost caution.

Thank you for sharing this time with me. We will meet for our next fly-in at ETSA Park Stadium, which is on Railway Terrace Mile End, at 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. on the 17th of April – I do hope you can join us.

If you would prefer a restful evening in the comfortable spectator's seats within the stadium, it wont cost you a cracker and you will be most welcome.
