Competitive car racers have the following special needs when it comes to chargers:
- A reliable way to accurately charge 4-, 6-, and 7 cell Ni-Cd and NiMH packs
- The ability to discharge packs to determine remaining run time or to grade packs
- To be able to charge, discharge and match individual cells
- The ability to automatically cycle packs or individual cells
- To be able to charge transmitter packs and gas car receiver packs
- To run and break in motors
- To be able to power commutator laths
|
With the expanding variety of aircraft now available, including electrics, slow and park flyers, micro and giant scale aircraft, electric helicopters, etc., pilots are finding their charging needs are increasing.
The ideal aircraft charger would do the following:
- Accurately fast charge all types of transmitter packs at any user-selected rate
- Charge any size and type of Ni-Cd, NiMH, or lithium metal receiver packs at any selected current rate
- Charge battery packs from 50mAh to 4800mAh from 1- to 30-cell from .2 to 10 amps charge rate
- Cycle all sizes and types of packs and display the capacity
- Charge single-cell glow drivers
- Charge 12-volt wet and gel cells
- Do multiple programmable cycling/cell conditioning and testing
|
Most car racers have several chargers, matchers, dischargers and devices to handle all their needs. Pilots too end up with a slew of chargers and cyclers in order to charge and maintain all their batteries. And for airplane pilots who also race cars, you can imagine the amount of equipment and cost it takes to properly charge and maintain the batteries.
Taking Command of your needs
GM Racing's Commander takes charge of all your battery needs. This computer D/C digital charger is totally programmable and totally versatile and can charge/discharge/ cycle/match every type and size of battery that we use in R/C period! Plus a motor run function allows the Commander to be used to break in any size and type of motor or drive commutator laths.
Five charging types are available:
- A liner current peak detection charge mode
- A liner current temperature detection charge mode
- A voltage peak mode terminates the charge when a preset voltage is achieved (used for lithium metal packs)
- The GM VIS charge mode features a GM exclusive high-amplitude pulse charge current to condition cells
- An automatic charge mode reads the internal resistance of the cells and automatically selects the current rate
|
A separate 200ma peak detection output circuit allows you to hook up transmitter or receiver packs, while simultaneously charging the main pack.
Our R&D staff has been testing and using the GM Commander and says that it is the most versatile, no-compromise charger available that will handle all of your R/C battery charging and maintenance needs.
